About

Jules Coumans (b. 1998) is a conceptual artist whose practice focuses on the liberation of space—public, institutional, social and metaphysical.

Viewing his practice as an ongoing site of experimentation—a never-ending playground—he builds potential contexts for alternative modes of interaction, sites of mutualistic symbiosis and spaces where shared agency and autonomy can emerge.

This approach has led to the creation of project spaces, lemonade stands, websites, organisations and art objects.

Grounded in a DIY ethos, his reclaiming and reconfiguring of space—both material and immaterial—aims to showcase possibilities for more autonomous, open-ended, and liberated ways of living and relating in a world we all inhabit collectively.
